Dr Mark Boyhan

Veterinary Surgeon

Mark graduated from the University of QLD in 1992 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and has a degree in Agriculture Science also. He began his career at Lort Smith Animal Hospital and the RSPCA before coming to Ferntree Gully Veterinary Hospital in 1999.

Mark has a keen interest in anaesthetics and pain management. Mark and his wife Melinda have 4 children and a cat named Lucy. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, watching Rugby, listening to ACDC and following Collingwood.

Dr Karly Barker

Veterinary Surgeon

Karly started with us in Jan 2017 after completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Melbourne Uni. Karly has 2 dogs (Molly & Layla) and a cat Alfie, she describes all 3 as problem children.  Karly has a keen interest in animal behaviour and medicine.

When she’s not at work she enjoys gaming on Xbox and Nintendo Switch (favourite game Fallout) and collecting pop vinyls.

Dr Lydia Xu

Veterinary Surgeon

Lydia graduated in 2009 from Melbourne Uni with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and joined our team in March 2018.  Lydia has special interests in ophthalmology, internal medicine (especially feline medicine), emergency medicine and is looking to do more training in diagnostic imaging and dentistry.

Outside of work Lydia enjoys traveling, hiking, camping, swimming, music, playing piano, singing and spending time with family and friends.

Melinda Boyhan

Practice Manager

Melinda started working with us in 2007 mainly in administration, then progressing to reception and has recently taken on the role of Practice Manager.  Melinda has worked as an animal attendant and veterinary nurse at the RSPCA in the past, whilst studying her Associate Diploma in Applied Animal Science and Certificate 4 in Vet Nursing she was interrupted and put her career and studies on hold to look after her four children.

Any spare time Melinda has is spent being involved in her children’s lives, be it watching their sporting events, or going to the movies.  She’s also a bit of a book worm.

Erinn Swart

Veterinary Nurse

With her previous experience at the RSPCA Erinn was a fantastic addition to the team, she started with us in October 2016.

Erinn is currently completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.  In her spare time, she loves being with family and friends; this often includes the fury kind, including her two cats Indianna and Archie.  We also love hearing about the many concerts Erinn is trying to get tickets for or has seen recently.

Fiona Canty

Veterinary Nurse

Fiona started with us in October 2016.  After travelling around Australia as a Jillaroo and working with large animals, she completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2013.  She has worked in the Yarra Ranges area and at Sandown Veterinary clinic after completing her qualifications.

Fiona has slotted nicely into the team here at Ferntree Gully.  She enjoys the challenges that emergencies can bring and is always on the go in quieter periods.

In her spare time Fiona is either chasing after or being chased by her young son, she likes to keep fit, loves being creative with arts and crafts and enjoys playing musical instruments such as the piano.

Amy Raru

Veterinary Nurse

Amy joined the team after doing Year 10 work experience with us.  In 2012 she started on her path to veterinary nursing by working as an animal attendant in our cattery where she completed her Certificate III in Animal studies. On completing her Year 12 VCAL she transitioned over to our nursing team and commenced her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

When not at work Amy is looking after her own pets and young daughter.  We often see her cheeky but cute Boarder Collie, Rudy when he eats things he’s not meant to. Along with Rudy she also has a Labrador, Mowee, and a cat called Roxy.

Ashlei McDonald

Veterinary Nurse

Ashlei started with our team in 2015 as part of our cattery staff after doing work experience with us.  Ashlei has transitioned over to nursing position late 2015.  She is due to complete her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2018.

Ashlei is enjoying all aspects of vet nursing, but is passionate about surgery

Ashlei is very passionate about her pets at home, two cats, Simba and Dotti, and her dog Buddy. In her spare time she enjoys working on her art and playing music and singing.

Jillian McSweeney

Veterinary Nurse

Jillian joined our team in 2012 and brought with her over 20 years of experience in veterinary nursing and pet retail knowledge.  She has worked for animal shelters like Lost Dogs Home and RSPCA aside from her nursing duties she also has experience in pet grooming and puppy and kitten training classes.

Jillian enjoys all aspects of nursing; however she has a keen interesting in animal behaviour, and sharing her knowledge  with all of our junior nursing team.

In Jillian’s spare time she is creating mischief with her son, attending to the reducing number of elderly pets, playing netball and becoming a novice photographer.

Siobhan Grant

Veterinary Nurse

Siobhan joined our team in May 2017 and has been Vet Nursing since 1995. Siobhan has an Advanced Certificate in Office administration, Certificate 3 in Animal Technology and Certificate 3 in Vet Nursing. Siobhan enjoys customer service and working in surgery.  Siobhan has 2 dogs Whiskey & Tessla, a Cornish Rex cat named Creasey and keeps fish. When Siobhan is not at work she is obsessed with her bonsai’s and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Jarrett Goh

Veterinary Nurse

Jarrett joined our team in November 2017 and is about to complete his Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing in November 2018.

Jarrett has grown up surrounded by animals and is currently the proud owner of a hyperactive Maltese x Shih Tzu named Fluffy.  Jarrett loves all aspects of Veterinary Nursing but especially surgery and has a special interest in dental preventative health.

When not at work Jarrett enjoys hiking, listening to music and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Ann Crockett

Veterinary Nurse

Ann started with us in June 2018 and is a Registered UK Vet Nurse with over 30 years’ experience.  Ann enjoys all aspects of nursing but surgical nursing is what she is passionate about.

When Ann is not at work she enjoys 4 x 4 touring, scuba diving and keeping fit.
