  • Jillian McSweeney
    Veterinary Nurse

    Jillian joined our team in 2012 and brought with her over 20 years of experience in veterinary nursing and pet retail knowledge. She has worked for Animal shelters like Lost Dogs Home and R.S.P.C.A. Aside from her nursing duties she also has experience in pet grooming and puppy and kitten training classes. In 2014 Jillian became our Head Nurse.

    Jillian enjoys all aspects of nursing; however she has a keen interesting in animal behaviour, and sharing her knowledge to all our junior nursing team.

    With any spare time Jillian has, she is creating mischief with her son, attending to the reducing number of elderly pets, playing netball and becoming a novice photographer.

  • Leah McCulloch
    Veterinary Nurse

    Leah joined Ferntree Gully Veterinary Hospital in June 2015 just as she was completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing through Australian College of Applied Animal Studies

    Leah enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing with a keen interest in Wild life care and surgical nursing. Her interest in wild life also extends to her volunteering at Southern Ash Wildlife Shelter where she assists with the rehabilitation of sick and injured koalas. Leah also has a passion for surgical and critical care.

    When not at work or caring for wildlife Leah can be found playing field hockey, where both in 2015 & 2016 she won her grand finals consecutively. Leah is often catching up with friends and family in her spare time or looking after her two cats, Amber and Dexter as well as her two budgies, Oscar and Charli.

  • Erinn Swart
    Veterinary Nurse

    Erinn started with us in October 2016. Erinn has volunteered at the R.S.P.C.A and worked as a trainee nurse both in Prahran and Romsey area.

    In 2013 Erinn completed her Certificate II in Animal studies and hopes to complete her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in the future. Once Erinn has completed her nursing certificate she is interested in expanding her knowledge in animal behaviour and surgical nursing.

    In Erinn's spare time, she loves spending time with family and friends; this often includes the furry kind, including her two cats Indianna and Archie. We also love hearing about the many concerts Erinn is trying to get tickets for or has seen recently.

  • Melinda Boyhan
    Veterinary Nurse

    Melinda is one of a longer term staff members. Melinda worked as an animal attendant and veterinary nurse at the R.S.P.C.A. Whilst studying her Associate Diploma in Applied Animal Science she was interrupted and put her career and studies on hold to look after her four children.

    Melinda began working at Ferntree Gully Veterinary Hospital in 2007 behind the scenes doing administrative duties. She then started nursing duties in 2012. Melinda is enjoying learning more about nursing and is contemplating going back to study. She has one cat named Lucy and in her spare time Melinda enjoys being involved in her children’s lives, reading and watching movies.

  • Susan Peck
    Veterinary Nurse

    Susan joined the Ferntree Gully Veterinary Hospital team in 2015. She enjoys all aspects of nursing and has a keen interested in wildlife. Susan is looking at commencing her nursing studies in the near future.

    Susan worked at the R.S.P.C.A for 16 years before taking time off to have a family. There she cared for all breeds of cats and dogs and have taken some of the special individuals home to become family pets. She also cared for other animals such as poultry, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and Australian wild life.

    In what little free time Susan has, she enjoys being with her family and friends, gardening, music and working on rebuilding her Mini, while taking care of her menagerie of animals.

  • Fiona Canty
    Veterinary Nurse

    Fiona is one of our newest staff members, starting in October 2016. After travelling around Australia as a Jillaroo and working with large animals, she completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2013. She has worked in the Yarra Ranges area and at Sandown Veterinary clinic after completing her certificate.

    Fiona has slotted herself nicely in to the team here at Ferntree Gully. She enjoys the challenges that emergencies can bring and is always on the go in quieter periods.

    In her spare time Fiona is either chasing after or being chased by her 17month old son. She likes to keep fit, loves being creative with arts and crafts and enjoys playing musical instruments such as the piano.

  • Amy Raru
    Veterinary Nurse

    Amy joined the team after doing Year 10 work experience with us. She started her path to veterinary nursing by working as an animal attendant in our cattery where she completed her Certificate III in Animal studies. On completing her Year 12 VCAL she transitioned over to our nursing team and commenced her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

    Amy has recently had her first child which is keeping her busy. Once Amy is back from maternity leave she will complete her final subjects of Certificate IV and then look at ways of pursuing her passion for geriatric patient care.

    As Amy has slowly moved positions from animal attendant to veterinary nurse she has expanded her knowledge in all aspect of veterinary nursing.

    When not at work Amy is looking after her own pets. We often see her cheeky but cute Boarder Collie, Rudy when eats things he’s not meant to. Along with Rudy she also has a Labrador, Mowee, and a cat called Roxy.

  • Ashlei McDonald
    Veterinary Nurse

    Ashlei started with our team in 2015 as part of our cattery staff after doing work experience with us. Ashlei has slowly transitioned over to nursing position late 2015. She is currently half way through her studies of the Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

    Ashlei is enjoying all aspects of vet nursing She is looking forward to see what the future brings.

    Ashlei is very passionate about her two cats, Simba and Dotti, and her dog Buddy, as well as two young long-neck turtles. In her spare time she enjoys working on her art and playing music in her band.
